Editorial Online: Girls are Awesome
We all know girls are awesome, no question. All for different reasons, some more than others (at least to me personally) and each in their own way. When adidas came out with that initiative slogan I had a thousand visuals running through my head.
Before telling you a little about the shoot itself and my forever lasting girlband dreams here a few facts about a project that can use all the support it can get! GIRLS ARE AWESOME isn't just a slogan, it's a goal. „The aim is to establish a network and create spaces that inspire girls and help them pursue their own projects. They can then tell their stories online. This way, adidas Originals and Girls Are Awesome are giving young women the chance to be part of a bigger picture.”
I know it from the photography world who is still dominated by men, and clients choosing not always for the better photographer, but for a guy who presents confidence on set (literally a clients words), that women can use all the chances there are to make their thing happen. And there millions of outstanding women out there who might just not have the platform to s how their awesomeness. By the way you can post your own idea or tell your own story using the hashtag #girlsareawesome. What is your dream, write it down, become a part of the network where girls support girls. Who knows, your dream might be closer to reality than you think.

When I was younger (who am I kidding, until today basically…) I always wanted to be part of a girl gang. Not that I can sing or play an instrument better than mediocre, but the idea of dressing similar, being part of a group and doing everything together seemed like the ultimate goal. 3-5 very different personality and looks, that was/is my personal ideal girl band. Or crew, gang whatever… I’m flexible there!
So as you can see I was already hooked simply by the idea of a group or a crew, by a matching styling and obviously by just a bunch of really cool girls. Casting them for a girl gang was harder than I thought simply because my list had at least 20 girls on there that I really admired. Most of them I’d never seen before but scouted via Instagram. We then finally ended up with those amazing five. Jade, Demi, Masha, Stacy and Pia, couldn’t have wished for more! Each of them is super creative in their very own way and clearly show that in a very unique and authentic way. Model, stylist, djane, blogger etc. I basically chose those five because I loved what they stood for, their uniqueness.
Due to a little time pressure (it does take some time to put 5 girls through hair & make-up and do a fitting on all of them) we went for 2 looks. Looking for the right kind of setting we then ended up in Westhafen and later on at Messe Center ICC. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I do, we had a very long but awesome day! A big thank you also goes to adidas for financially supporting this editorial idea and for a round of sneakers for the girls.
