By now most of you might have come across the #ImPerfect campaign by esprit. I personally thought it was one of the most clever ways to use hashtags and I loved their choice of models. Well #ImPerfect is last seasons news, this season they take one step further. The new campaign (#ImEsprit) is about individualism and your very own statement - one that you can also become part of, right here! There are plenty of statements to choose from a few examples being #ImLove #ImCourage #ImPassion #ImFuture #ImChange etc. I thought about what fits to me, to my work but also to my private life. One that sums it all up and one that I think comes before everything else (at least in my opinion) is #ImFreedom
Because there is no future without freedom, no passion, no possibility for change and partially also no love or the chance of love without freedom. Since freedom is too big of a topic to discuss it all in one blog post, this is part one of two, the second one being a little more personal.

Freedom to me is everything I take for granted (and try not to). Especially considering that women didn't always have the freedom to go to school / university, to vote, to work, to state their opinions ... the list is endless. And here I am working as a photographer in a still very male dominated field, photographing everything I want to. There is (almost) no censorship to my work at least nothing that keeps me from shooting exactly what I'm shooting. If that happens to be a group of soldiers holding flowers and toys, or two naked women dressed in transparent burkas. It might be controversial, people might hate it (and make sure to tell me that), but I'm allowed to do it. With that freedom you can grow as an artist and test your very own borders every now and then.
Another huge part of my work is traveling. Almost to every country in the world in fact and all by myself. Having the luxury of getting to know different cultures and working with them requires tolerance, acceptance of each other, peace and the freedom for both sides to take part in art. Although the world is constantly changing, borders are being negotiated and peace is a very unstable state, living in 2017 is as good as it has ever been. I'm very grateful to all the women, to all artist and to everyone who fought for this right of freedom and I believe we should all make sure we contribute.
