May I introduce: FA'VELAPUNK

Model Interview

Some people seem to use their 24 hours a day much more effective than others. One of them being model Fahrani Empel. Maybe better known by her artist name FA'VELAPUNK. This beyond beautiful girl isn't just a model, but an actress, a musician and a designer to her own sunglasses brand (CAST) with fans like Rihana, Rita Ora and Grimes. In her free time (whenever that should be) she supports environmental cases. Thumbs up for so much activism and living life to the fullest. If you want to know more abour Fa, check out the interview below or read the complete article in German on MTV STYLE.

YOU WORK AS A MODEL, MUSICIAN, EYE WEAR DESIGNER, AND ACTRESS, WHERE LIES YOUR MAIN PASSION (LET'S SAY FOR THE MOMENT).
Everything that I do feeds me a different high. I do know when I am performing on stage it is the biggest high I could ever experience, kind of an addiction. So I guess I am chasing after that at the moment. Hopefully I will be directing a feature film soon… maybe this will be my ultimate passion?

FA'VELAPUNK IS QUITE A NAME, HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH IT?
It started with a temporary love affair of the Brazilian Funk genre. I was fascinated by the raw energy that their music evokes. One of my girlfriends who was in the scene just started to call me FA’VELAPUNK, so. I guess she pretty much baptized me with that name and it stuck.

YOU MOVED OUT AT THE AGE OF 16, HOW HARD WAS IT STANDING ON YOUR OWN FEET AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE, AND WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO LEAVE AT THAT AGE?
I always wanted to leave home since I was really young. I have always  been very independent so the transition wasn’t hard at all. I used to tell  people that I was going to be an International model since I was 13, so that’s exactly what I went and did...

WHAT WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST EXPERIENCES IN YOUR CAREER SO FAR?
To be selected as one of the 13 international "Eco Warriors".
I spent 3 months of my life living in the jungle of Borneo with the tribe people and trying to fight deforestation and saving the wildlife.

AS A MODEL YOU WORKED IN SO MANY DIFFERENT CITIES AND COUNTRIES, WHICH DID YOU LIKE BEST AND WHY?
I would say New York is still my favorite city to combine work and play.
But I have recently discovered the magic of Mexico…

AS A MUSICIAN, DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC IN 3-4 WORDS.
WHAT MAKES A CAREER IN MUSIC SO DIFFERENT FROM ACTING? PROS VS. CONS?
Non Genre Specific…
Same as  with all my professions and projects to date, I don’t like to have boundaries in the creative process.
Acting is obviously non genre specific too, in that each role you commit to is a new character. However with acting, you have to invest a significant amount of time to one project, which has its purpose.   The way I get the best out of my music is needing to feel it at any given time. When the flow is there, everything just pours out. When it isn’t there, I don’t put pressure on myself to make it happen. Music has a freedom that I desire.

DO YOU THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO BECOME RECOGNIZABLE, A BRAND, SOMETHING YOU STAND FOR, OR IS IT MORE IMPORTANT TO CHANGE ALL THE TIME, OFFER SOMETHING NEW?

I am all about  the process of evolution. It's my signature to life.

HOW DID YOU GET THE IDEA OF DESIGNING EYE-WEAR?  WHY EXACTLY EYE-WEAR AND NOT JEWELERY, CLOTHING, SHOES ETC.
I had actually established a footwear and clothing label before I moved into professional eye wear design… I had always been drawing eye wear shapes that I wanted for myself when I was extensively traveling and modeling full-time.
Why eye wear? It allows me time to pursue other things. When I had the clothing label, I was at the office all day and night to get shit done, which I respect, it just wasn’t for me. I can now manage the design and the business in a way that  allows me to do my acting, music, modeling and whatever I need to do, when I need to do it!

DID YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IT BEFORE? WHAT INSPIRED YOU?
I didn’t really know how the scope of the business worked beforehand, but as I had always been working on the other side of the fashion sphere, I had a basic understanding. It didn’t take me as long as expected to gain the skills required. I am always learning everyday. It gives me great pleasure to see strangers wearing products I create, they are my inspiration.

IF YOU COULD SWAP CLOSETS WITH SOMEONE (DEAD OR ALIVE) FOR ONE DAY, WHO WOULD THAT BE?  Prince

DESCRIBE YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE OF CLOTHING...
A nice solid jacket. You can hide everything underneath it.

AS YOU TRAVEL A LOT, WHAT IS THE STRANGEST THING YOU'VE EVER EATEN?
Fried grasshoppers.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE QUOTE?
“Are we there yet”??

LAST THING YOU BOUGHT?
Air Jordan 8 / white.

WITH WHOM WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE A JAMMING SESSION?
Alisson Mosshart please.

QUICK ROUND:
East Coast or West Coast? BOTH!
Pants or skirts? pants
Piercing or tattoos? tattoos
Early bird or night owl? definitely an early bird... that turns into night owl
Think before you talk or talk before you think? think before you talk
World cup or super bowl? world cup
Dress up or dress down? dress up!
Star Wars or Lion King? Lion King
Lab top or desktop?  laptop
Biggest addiction?  tattoos and porn…
