May I introduce: Vikky Ivie

photographer interview

Romantic, girly photography. I’m an avowing fan. Just now and then I happen to have a backslide into the Guy Bourdin scene, but usually I fall for the dreamy back light snap shots. Vikky Ivie’s photography therefore is exactly my piece of cake. Check out the interview we did about the Fanning sisters, a Valentino campaign and Lula Magazine dreams.

Describe your photography in three words:
feminine, ethereal, haunting.

When did you start with photography?

What was the first photograph you sold, or had published?
A photo that was part of my 'dream house' series

Can you make a living off your work ?
No- not yet!

Who would you like to shoot if you had the choice? (anyone you want to dead or alive)
Dakota and Elle Fanning

What kind of photography do you enjoy the most? (portraits, documentary etc.) and why?
Fashion photos, that’s what I love, to see the models, to see the clothes, to see the story.

If you could choose to shoot a campaign for any brand what would it be?
Valentino

What do you like best, shooting on location or studio?
Definitely location

Is there a place you would like to shoot in the future?
There are plenty of places but they are all in the north of England, so hard to get to etc. But I do want to shoot at the beach soon.

Which photographer is an inspiration to you? Why?
There are too many but Deborah Turbeville is an inspiration, I love her Polaroids, the soft colours and dreamy scenes.

Digital or analogue? Why do you choose to work with the method you do?
Analogue, every time. I just prefer it, you have to be set on what you want so you don’t waste film, its something that happens instantly and captures a moment, and its something you can create yourself.

Black/white or colour photography?
Colour

Action or Romance?
Romance

Fast or slow?
Fast

USA or Europe?
Europe

Models or Actors?
Models

Sweet or salty?
Salty

Milkshakes or ice cream?
Ice cream

Vinyl or mp3?
Mp3

Pastel or neon?
Pastel

Denim or leather?
Denim

Future dream?
To be working freelance and shooting for magazine like Lula.

Where are you in 10 years?
I would hope to be running my own magazine.
